2015 Charlottesville Albemarle Tourism Recognition Awards

Yesterday the Charlottesville Albemarle Convention & Visitors Bureau (CACVB) held the 2015 Charlottesville Albemarle Tourism Recognition Awards at the Ruth Caplin Theater at UVA.  The bureau gave awards to local businesses and employees who have direct contact with the public. Two of our very own took home the award in two categories.  Anna Quillon, of Monticello Wine Tour and Coach, won for Best Customer Service in Transportation Services; and Hilary Taylor, of Stay Charlottesville, won Best Customer Service in Lodging.  Winners of those awards were selected through a public vote held between February and March 31.

‘From the Dirt’ is a series of works that transition from the darkness of growth into the lightness of flourishing. My work begins with intense and dark colors that are paired with a variety of textures. This series characterizes a period of experimentation, pushing boundaries, and finding success in the unexpected. As any change becomes normal, the “growing pains” became comfortable and my palate became easier, brighter, and more whimsical. As an artist, creating art has been a lesson in enjoying the process, not just placing paint on the canvas. It’s about letting roots go deep, growing tall, and finishing in beauty. Each work was made as such…and with a little bit of dirt around the edges.

#1 The University of Virginia could be said to have the presidential touch, as Founding Father Thomas Jefferson was responsible for its conception and – after the school’s establishment in 1819 – the development of its awe-inspiring campus. Jefferson’s original vision still makes an impact on the University of Virginia’s now 1,682-acre grounds in Charlottesville, Virginia, most notably through the stunning, Palladian-style Rotunda – which in its design draws inspiration from Rome’s celebrated Pantheon. Finished in 1826, the Rotunda holds the honor of being among just a trio of man-made modern U.S. structures to be designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites. In 1976 the campus as a whole was also named “the proudest achievement of American architecture in the past 200 years” by the American Institute of Architects.

  • Cheers to our Guest of the Month, Kristen! Below are the three simple questions we asked Kristen to get a glimpse into her visit to our great city!

    1. What property did you book for your STAY?

    2. What did you like most about the property?

It was cozy and updated with a great outdoor area where the family could gather and enjoy one another’s company.

    3. What was your favorite thing you did while in C-Ville?

Hmmmm, we enjoyed visiting Monticello and the Monticello Wine Tour (Pollak was our favorite).  Also hiking at Sugar Hollow and blue hole for swimming on a hot day, but most of all, cooking, eating and celebrating family in a beautiful setting.
